- I'm part of the Our Society network because it provides opportunities to connect our local thinking to the fantastic ideas of others which stimulate my imagination and enthusiasm. With supportive colleagues, I have helped to drive forward Our Society in Dudley Borough as a recognised local response to new policy an so on. Wow - first blog post on this site!
For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, our recent Dosti newsletter has an Our Society theme and examples of fantastic activity and people in from Dudley's communities.
Today I was approached by a Chair of a Tenants and Residents Association who wants support having a Big Society conversation at their next general meeting. I've been approached having stolen (with permission)…

Hi Lorna
I suppose participatory media is really a grand name for community media, but the latter has come to mean something more specific, especially now there's a third broadcast licence sector (radio). The kind of media work which I do involves people making media/radio in a very micro way, combined with me reporting on small organisations and events with the resulting interviews then distributed over the internet.
For example, see our (Women's Radio Group) current online broadcast project, which is supported by the London Borough of Ealing ( ) I do some of the reporting, but my main role is to update and manage the website - some of the items are posted there after the broadcast each month..
I've also used radio in schools, such as for the Acland Burghley creative writing project - we recorded the students' original writing and published it on a Wordpress website here
And radio is great with ESOL classes, regeneration projects, in hard to reach communities etc.

- Allo - haven't done much work on here as we only set it up on Friday. Will start plugging away. Get logo sorted then I'll start tinkering with some of the visuals ;)
It isn't open to the wider world yet, but will be asap so feel free to re-focus your efforts here then. Ning is MUCH m0ore user friendly and reliable imo, so will suit your purposes more too :)
