Wow - first blog post on this site!
For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, our recent Dosti newsletter has an Our Society theme and examples of fantastic activity and people in from Dudley's communities.

Peter Hook said… Lorna, I totally agree that so many teachers would thrive is they were only trusted to do the job they are passionate about - creating better futures for children. Hopefully, our new school will give them a chance to do just that.

Cathy Aitchison said… Hi Lorna,
Good to hear from you. How did the social reporter training go the other day?
Yes, of course, we will be very pleased to hear from women outside Ealing.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes

Cathy Aitchison said… Hi Lorna
I suppose participatory media is really a grand name for community media, but the latter has come to mean something more specific, especially now there's a third broadcast licence sector (radio). The kind of media work which I do involves people making media/radio in a very micro way, combined with me reporting on small organisations and events with the resulting interviews then distributed over the internet.
For example, see our (Women's Radio Group) current online broadcast project, which is supported by the London Borough of Ealing ( ) I do some of the reporting, but my main role is to update and manage the website - some of the items are posted there after the broadcast each month..
I've also used radio in schools, such as for the Acland Burghley creative writing project - we recorded the students' original writing and published it on a Wordpress website here
And radio is great with ESOL classes, regeneration projects, in hard to reach communities etc.
