I've just posted this over on socialreporters.net, where John Popham and I are helping the Big Lottery Fund explore the future of their People Powered Change initiative as a networked space for local projects and national partners to share experience and learn from each other.

Among networks that help local projects share experience, with support but not dominance from…

NALC campaigns for local London councils

Posted on October 24, 2011 at 12:51 0 Comments

It's a good time to talk about local democracy - whether the type you vote for, the type you get involved in, or both - and so I'm looking forward to the Create a Council event in London tomorrow evening.

The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) - which represents parish and town councils - argues that that "if local people are elected by their community to influence and make… Continue

Next week there's another chance to engage with researchers looking into how community groups and activists can achieve their aims in today's hard times.

The Third Sector Research Centre is running a live online discussion in the evening of October 19 with a panel from our sister online community, the National Community Activists Network. There's a summary of an earlier online discussion…

David

Good to hear from you.  Having taken early retirement from the DTA, now merged with bassac & called Locality.  I'm only able to speak for the Bootstrap Company of which I'm chair see: www.bootstrapcompany.co.uk/.  Big issue how can the cuts we are seeing be compatible with the Big Society or did I miss something...

Hi David

Not really keen to post publicly about our dealings with YSM as we're still trying to do some work with them - they ain't easy to deal with. Suffice to say there's only one way of doing things, and surprisingly it's theirs.

Hello David,

Thanks for the message. The ideas behind the "Our Society" concept look really good. Having a messy, bottom-up, evolutinary approach is the best way to deveolp good ideas. I will have a proper look around the site at the weekend.

Best wishes,

Nick

Hi David & welcome to Our Society!

This network is in the early stages of development so we'd very much appreciate any comments or suggestions that you have. I've set up a Feedback Forum for this, so please do share your thoughts there.

You can read a bit more about Our Society and what we hope to achieve by having a read of our About Us page.

As a quick way to get the ball rolling, please feel free to say hello and tell us a bit about yourself in the "Who are you?" thread.

Thanks again for joining, please contact me if you have any problems, and do feel free to set up your own group or discussion - I'm happy to assist with either.
